I’ve really enjoyed my stay out here at the farm. I told Mr. FixIt last night, I didn’t realize how worn out I was. While I did get some work done on the computer, what I really did the most was soak this place up like a sponge. I did a lot of porch sitting and bird watching and listening to the whispers of the past. It was restorative in a way no place can give me. And now I’m ready to go home and get back to work.
This little guy greeted me at the barn door when I went to get the ladder!
The day started out pretty slow yesterday. I decided to call the phone company to see if they could check to see why we have no service. She sent the request to the technical department and they did whatever booboo they do in the back on the…I don’t know…computers maybe? She said she would call me back when she knew something. Then, as soon as Mr. FixIt got here around lunch time things started hopping.
It’s been a week since I started Noom. I’m here to report it’s been much easier than I anticipated. I attribute that to the support the app gives me every day…several times a day. And physically, I feel completely different. My memory is a little better, I think. I know I feel clearer, if that makes any sense. I mood is stable. I’m sleeping soundly. And I am not at all hungry. As a matter of fact, I have to force myself to get enough calories to meet the minimum requirements.
What a perfect day for a bridal shower. Our oldest granddaughter…one of my bonus grandkids…is getting married in June and yesterday was her bridal shower at her soon-to-be mother-in-law’s lovely home. First, let me say, their house is exactly six blocks up the street from Mom’s house where I grew up. The difference between our humble, but altogether reasonable, home and this abode was night and day. When I was a kid, I used to pick daisies in the field where this house is.
We waited till the dew was off the grass then I went out and finished mowing here at Marshmallow Ranch. Mr. FixIt got the tiller out of the pole building and dug up the area along the fence and planted the Elephant Ear bulbs. Those things multiply every year so we always have more than we planted the year before. Maybe I’ll throw the container in the trunk of the car today with a handful of bags and give them away after the bridal shower for our eldest granddaughter.
For the first time in what seems like forever, the sky cleared to intermittent clouds and sun. No rain and the temperature got up into the 60’s! The grass dried up enough by 1:00 to start mowing. Of course by that time I could have practically baled hay. It was very slow going. I had to raise the mower deck and mow really slow so I would reduce the risk of breaking the belt. When I was making one round, I noticed a beautiful patch of bright and shiny buttercups. They looked so healthy turning their little faces up to the sun that I just couldn’t mow them down.
I have no idea how they came up with the name for Noom, but they hit it out of the park with their app. First off, let me say…I’ve lost FOUR pounds since Monday. I know…the first few pounds are water weight, but I’ll take anything I can get! I haven’t been a bit hungry and I have eaten anything I wanted. Yesterday morning was Mr. FixIt’s fabulous oatmeal. I mixed mine with blueberries and dehydrated peaches.
Our daughter-in-law sent us an article regarding all that debris that’s been seen washing up on the beaches from Nags Head to Salvo. We picked up bags and bags of it and gave it to the Federal Rangers who monitor the seashore. At first we thought a smallish boat capsized, but the sheer volume of stuff kind of negated that theory. I thought maybe it was debris that got washed out to sea from those devastating rains and floods in southern Florida, but it seemed to be more regionally located. The article says the nature of the debris indicates it may have come from a US Navy vessel located off the northeastern coast of North Carolina, but they didn’t have specific details. They are still investigating the incident.
I have been nearly sedentary since I started the new project and I can really tell the difference in my stamina. I’ll soon turn seventy and I’ll be darned if I’m going to just continue to slide downhill. I need to keep myself in better health for many more reasons than just looking and feeling better. So, I made a decision over the weekend and signed up for Noom. I looked at the differences between toughing it out on my own or doing TOPS or Weight Watchers. I knew I didn’t want to do one of the prepared food diets. I did HMR a couple of times in the past and it worked but was really pricey. The thing I like about Noom is the app has continual support and education. I like the psychological approach to weight loss because, not only is it scientific…it’s also totally wrapped up in the WHY we overeat.
My, how time flies when you’re having fun! It seems like yesterday when I started my big project while also piecing a king sized quilt. The trip to the beach seemed far away…and now it’s passed. We did have a great time and it’s always sad to be over. We’re already looking forward to our next trip down.
